Seeing things differently

EyeTalking to your employees too loudly and all the time can make them lose their normal bounce and it might mean you’re out of pocket.

We’ve been looking at the current research into information overload and what it tells us about the impact of too much information on our audiences.

Some employees have been found to suffer from apnea - the suspension of normal breathing - when inundated with emails and Harvard Business School identified reduced creative activity on days when work is fragmented by interruptions. Intel’s annual cost of reduced efficiency caused by employee time spent on interruptions is estimated at nearly $1bn.

Internal communicators can help both by making information easy to understand and by turning down the volume. Some quiet e-mail and mobile-free areas might help too.

We have developed an information overload survey to find out how your employees feel about this issue, which you can include in your regular employee survey.
